Educate for a better today and tomorrow

Making clothes a force for good

With the help of our Technical Advisory Committee and external partners, we are creating international education programs focused on zero waste, upcycling, and the circular economy with dynamic programs designed for industry, students, and consumers.

Our Programs:

Jasmyne Spencer Presents:

Runway to Sustainability

Powered by Angel City FC

Target audience: Ages 12 - 18

  • Coastal communities around the world share the most risk from climate change.  For coastal communities of color, this risk has already become real.  This engaging, hands-on course explores climate change, social justice, sustainability, and their interrelationship through a dynamic afterschool/summer program using apparel, one of the most powerful social drivers and status symbols for children/adolescents as a vehicle.  Students will join Angel City FC star Jasmyne (Jas) Spencer to lead a pivot that turns clothes into a force for good.

Learn how clothes are made, meet the people who make them, understand the social and environmental impacts of our clothes, and how we can transform them to become a critical part of the #ClimateComeback. Students then use this knowledge to extend the life of unworn clothes by participating in a clothing swap and creating their own Susty Game Day Fits in a Susty Fashion Workshop.  The program will conclude with students sharing their Fits with Jas and Angel City FC on the Runway at an Angel City FC match.

Teacher’s Guide, lesson plans, and associated resources, are all available digitally and specifically designed to be offered by existing staff. Lesson plans include an overview, learning outcomes, skills, resources, required preparation, activities, and vocabulary.

  • Learn how clothes are made, meet the people who make them, understand the social and environmental impacts of our clothes, and how we can transform them to become a critical part of the #ClimateComeback. The program will conclude with a sustainable Fashion show hosted by Jas and Angel City FC.

CJ’s Training Camp: Sustainability

Target audience: Ages 13 - 18

  • Recent studies have demonstrated students are aware of sustainability, believe it is important, but critically don’t know exactly what it is, how it affects daily life, or how to pursue it in specific areas. Loopt Foundation, CJ McCollum Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Looptworks have partnered together to address this foundational need.

  • CJ’s Training Camp: Sustainability introduces students (focusing on those from historically marginalized communities) to sustainability concepts through a dynamic program using apparel as a vehicle. Learning is done through a global exploration of the three pillars of sustainability: economic development, social development, and environmental protection.

    • How clothes are made

    • Understanding the people who make them

    • Perform a life cycle analysis on NBA star CJ McCollum’s game jersey

    • Develop their own local sustainable service project aimed at reducing the environmental and health impacts of apparel
