CJ’s Training Camp: Sustainability Successfully Completes Pilot.
Recent studies have demonstrated students are aware of sustainability, believe it is important, but critically don’t know exactly what it is, how it affects daily life, or how to pursue it in specific areas. Loopt Foundation, CJ McCollum Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Looptworks partnered together to successfully address this foundational need in 2022.
CJ’s Training Camp: Sustainability introduces students to sustainability concepts through a dynamic program using apparel as a vehicle. Learning is done through a global exploration of the three pillars of sustainability: economic development, social development, and environmental protection.
Students take a virtual trip around the world with CJ to learn how their clothes are made, the connection between their closet and the climate, and how they can make a difference!
CJ’s Training Camp: Sustainability was launched in three phases in 2022 providing opportunity for evaluation in a variety of environments and constant program revision and improvement.
It is designed to comply with Oregon COVID-19 related guidelines and restrictions and Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area operational best practices. It supports the outcomes listed in the 2050 Vision for Materials Management in Oregon report; that Oregonians have access to the knowledge, capabilities, resources and services required to use materials responsibly, producers make products sustainably, people live well and consume sustainably, and products have the most useful life possible after discard.
